چکیده

Soft handoff techniques in direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) systems provide mobile calls with seamless connections between adjacent cells. Channel reservation schemes are used to give high priority to more important soft handoff attempts over new call attempts. However, since the number of soft handoff attempts varies according to environmental conditions, fixed reservation schemes for handoff attempts can be inefficient. An adaptive channel reservation scheme is herein proposed to control the size of reservation capacity according to varying the number of soft handoff attempts. The proposed scheme also includes a balancing procedure between soft handoff failure and new call blocking to maximize the system capacity. To evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, a Markovian model is developed that considers the interference-limited capacity effect of DS-CDMA systems. Analytical result shows that the proposed scheme yields a considerable enhancement in terms of new call blocking and soft handoff failure probabilities when compared with the conventional fixed channel reservation scheme.

Admission control scheme for soft handoff in DS-CDMA cellular systems supporting voice and stream-type data services

The soft handoff call requests of real-time services in third-generation (3G) direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) and firstand second-generation cellular systems are more important than new call requests from the viewpoint of quality of service (QoS). Rejection of soft handoff requests causes forced termination of an ongoing real-time call, which is a severer problem than bl...

A Soft Computing based Adaptive Call Admission Control Scheme for Bi-class Traffic in CDMA Cellular Network

Soft handoff in CDMA cellular system increases system capacity as compared to hard handoff as interference is reduced by transmitting signals as lower power level. A CDMA cellular system involving voice and data calls is considered in this paper. The model proposed in this paper is for data and voice services (Bi-class). It is based on reservation for handoff voice and data calls along with cal...

The Enhanced Soft Handoff Algorithm for Multirate DS-CDMA Cellular Systems

In this paper, an enhanced soft handoff algorithm is proposed to improve system capacity for multi-rate DS-CDMA cellular systems. In the algorithm, we first propose a load-based power allocation scheme for serving soft handoff users in the forward link; we next develop two kinds of active set determination mechanism: a quality-based active set control (QBASC) scheme and fuzzy active set control...

Adaptive channel reservation for call admission control to support prioritized soft handoff calls in a cellular CDMA system

This paper proposes a prioritized call admission control (CAC) model to support soft handoff calls with quality of service (QoS) assurances for both the uplink and downlink connections in a CDMA system. CAC is formulated as a combinatorial optimization problem in which the problem objective is to minimize the handoff forced termination rate. The model, which is based on the adaptive channel res...

Channel-Borrowing Handoff Scheme Based on User Mobility in CDMA Cellular Systems

Abstmcr-CDMA cellular systems use soft handoff. Although the capacity of CDMA systems is interference-limited in nature, channel shortages may occur because soft handoff uses several channels simultaneously. To cope with this problem, we propose an improved handoff method which borrows channels from stationary calls participating in soft handoff and allocates the borrowed channels to handoff re...
